Old Mother Hubbard

Old Mother Hubbard, Humpty Dumpty, Georgie Porgie, Jack and Jill, Mary, Mary Quite Contrary, and Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater, are just a few of the many characters from a childhood in the United States. What might these nursery rhymes have sounded like, though, had they been written in Spanish?

Description

Professor Emeritus, Deacon Larry Torres of UNM Taos put a new spin on these Mother Goose classics by presenting them in a bilingual format that scans poetically every bit as much in Spanish as it does in English. Would you recognize ‘Georgie Porgie’ as ‘Jorge Borjes’ or ‘Jack and Jill as “Juan y Lina’? Professor Torres has also added an introduction to his work describing theories as to just who the original Mother Goose may have been.

This collection of bilingual nursery rhymes is a must for any serious collector of American folklore or for anyone who would like to revisit childhood from a different perspective. All the illustrations in woodcut format are original works by Larry Torres.
